River Enquiry at The Thames Festival

A River Enquiry at The Mayor's Thames Festival, London City Bridge Pier, Potters Fields Park & HMS Belfast, 11th - 12th September, 2010. Times for each performance please see below.

In a new partnernship with The Mayor's Thames Festival, home live art commissions three new pieces of work by artists: Amy Sharrocks, Search Party and Tim Etchells. Using the River Thames as a point of reference, a resource and a location, each artist will create a temporary work exploring our relationship to water. A River Enquiry will be a key feature of the Mayor's Thames Festival, London's largest free outdoor arts festival.

Amy Sharrocks 'Thames Water': in Potters Fields Park, SE1 2NN from 12pm-7pm on-going. Pursuing her on-going passion for London's famous river and challenging its official health and safety status, Amy will set up a paddling pool and invite people to roll up their trousers and wade through the city's water. Environmental charity Thames 21 will also be on hand to help people test the water of what is purportedly one of the cleanest rivers in Europe.

Search Party 'Save Me': 3pm-5pm with semaphore flags viewing from London Bridge or on or near the HMS Belfast (on riverside) and at 7pm-9pm viewing from Tower Bridge or near HMS Belfast (riverside). NB the HMS Belfast is closed to the public on Saturday, but open on Sunday. If you wish to view from HMS Belfast, address: Morgan's Lane, Tooley Street, SE1 2JH its open from 10am till 6pm, prices £12.95 adults, under 16's free. Bristol duo Search Party will test the limits of intimacy between two people separated by stretches of the River Thames. With help from the public, Search Party will conduct two two-hour conversations: signalling between the prow of HMS Belfast and London Bridge using semaphore flags 3pm-5pm and at night 7pm-9pm, between the stern of the ship and Tower Bridge, using torches and morse code.

Tim Etchells 'Cold Water Fun': booklets available FREE at Festival Programme Points, stalls in the Blue Ribbon Village and in local cafes, shops and on benches. If you would like to request a booklet sent to you please send a SAE to home live art, 1a Flodden Rd, SE5 9LL. Imagine the city and its river in new and expected ways through this fictitious programme of events for the River Thames.
