With the team at the festival we’ve written the following blog about how we’re working with Buzzcut to deliver four artist bursaries for next year’s programme.
At Home With BUZZCUT is a professional development opportunity we developed with our pals Home Live Art last year. It is a chance for four artists who applied to BUZZCUT whose practice really interests and excites us but who we are not able to fit into the programme, to attend the festival in a loosely guided way. We developed this with Home Live Art last year due to receiving 500 applications and desperately wanting to make connections with and support as many artists as possible.
At Home With Buzzcut offers:
– Travel, accommodation and per diems for the five days of the festival
- An artist facilitator and Home Live Art producer to set up informal meetings and conversations with others at the festival
- The opportunity to see all the work that is on
- Meeting the Buzzcut team
Last year the artists were Kayleigh Handley, Edythe Woolley, Mary Pearson and Alicia Jane Turner. You can read about Kayleigh’s experience here
When we approached Buzzcut to develop this scheme for 2017, both organisations acknowledged a lack of diversity within the community generated during Buzzcut festival.
After considering the demographic of the festival across the past five years, this year we decided to offer this opportunity to artists who identify as Black and Ethnic Minority, and/or disabled, and/or from low income backgrounds, who we feel are less represented in the festival currently. This is in the hope of establishing new long term relationships and the potential to work together in the future.
Buzzcut is always striving to create an open and accessible environment for sharing performance, and bring together a range of voices to share experiences and perspectives with one another. This is an ongoing inquiry that we continually return to and seek to develop.
We’d love to hear from you, so we hope you apply! Go and check out the application form on the Buzzcut home page 🙂
Love Buzzcut and Home Live Art xxx
