Good Stuff: re:create
re:create is a friendly and free LGBTQ+ performance group based in St Leonards, East Sussex offering somewhere to find and explore your creative ideas. They provide opportunities to learn new skills, create your own performance work and get on stage.
COVID 19: Due to the recent lockdown situation, we are currently meeting on Zoom at 11am every Saturday. Email them on info@goodstuffinstlens.com and they will send you an invitation (and help you get set up on zoom if you don’t already know – all you need is a smartphone or a laptop with a camera).
What happens at re:create?
Members develop and create their own performances using a variety of different styles including storytelling, improvisation, cabaret, audience participation or using slideshows and videos.
Each performance is tailored to how individual members want to work and the facilitators will help to create something that works for you. You can work solo, or in pairs, or as a group. You can come with a performance idea, or we can help you to find one. You can come alone or with a friend.
Will we perform our work publicly?
re:create will be working towards a ‘showcase of performance’ in St Leonards at the end of the year where group members will be able to perform in front of a friendly and supportive audience. There is no obligation to share your work and If you would rather not perform there will be many other ways to help out with the showcase.
Who are the facilitators?
re:create is facilitated by Benny Lewis and Izzy Thornton both based in St Leonards
Izzy (she/her) studied theatre arts at Sussex University, and has worked backstage at many local theatres including Glyndbourne, the De La Warr, and White Rock. By day she is a loyal civil servant and jedi master; in re:create she aims to help local LGBTQ+ people to be themselves and tell their stories.
Benny (they/them) was a founding member of queer cabaret collective Lashings of Ginger Beer Time and now works in mental health. They come to re:create with a passion for empowering people to discover talents and capabilities that they did not know they had.
