Overview for Participants

What does it mean to be local?

Do you think you could share your experiences of St Leonards through photography, sound walks and other forms of making and writing?

Remote…Local is a space for young people who are first, second or third generation migrants to think and write about experiences of St Leonards.

We want to explore who and what counts as local and investigate how cultural differences shape our relationship to place

YOU, will work with local artists and makers to document and map the migrant and international stories of the town.

ARE doing this through writing, sound walks, photography and other forms of making and writing.

REMOTE….LOCAL! is a space to think and write about your experiences of St Leonards.

The Remote…Local programme is devised by local residents with support from Critical Interruptions. It is part of Good Stuff in St Leonards, a creative programme of activities and events led by local residents.

Critical Interruptions is a Serbo-Romanian critical cooperative founded by Diana Damian-Martin and Bojana Janković. Collectively, they talk, perform, write and think about migration, borders, internationalism and Eastern European identities and diasporic cultures.

Good Stuff in St Leonards is funded by Creative Civic Change, a partnership between Local Trust, the National Lottery Community Fund, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Additional funding for this exhibition has also been received from the Chalk Cliff Trust.
