This workshop is only open to people based in East Sussex. There are fifteen places available.
A playful, no-pressure devising workshop led by artist Stacy Makishi for anyone up for generating live material from their own messy, human experience.
What happens when our curiosity becomes larger than our fears?
What happens to our creativity when we let go of being cool, clever, original and in control?
‘Aloha-Alchemy’ transforms shame into performance gold. In this workshop, we make with our mess. The human mess that we’ve been hiding becomes raw material for artmaking and storytelling.
Together we’ll experiment with different elements of performance - writing, storytelling, image-making, movement and composition.
No set outcome, just connecting to our hearts, each other and to the mystery of our creativity.
Who is it for
There is no experience necessary to join the Aloha Academy; just the courage to be willing to try new ideas and walk into the unknown.
Whether you’re already making performance or simply curious about exploring your creativity in a new way, you’re welcome here
Stacy Makishi is a big believer that there is no such thing as ‘creative’ and ‘non-creative’ people, only people who use their creativity and those who don’t. And as with Stacy’s performance pieces, this workshop welcomes you just as you are – especially the imperfect, messy, awkward, shy, shameful, shitty ‘not good enough’ parts of you.
So, if your curiosity is larger than your fear, this workshop’s for you. If your appetite for love, connection, playfulness and pizza (yes, free pizza for all!) is larger than your fear, this workshop’s for you.
About Stacy Makishi
Stacy Makishi is a transplant from Hawaii who found paradise in Dalston, London in 1993.
Like a bonsai plant, Stacy is small but old, and has been making art and infecting folks with curiosity and creativity for 40 years.
A cross-fertilization of live art, theatre, comedy, film and visual art, her work ranges across stage performances, large-scale participatory projects and intimate one-to-ones. It is as complex as it is accessible, humorous as it is challenging, visual as it is literate.
Stacy believes in art’s transformative power and strives to share her creative process with others in order to put more aloha into the world.

To enter Greenhalf Studios there is one high step-over (43cm) at the entrance, followed by three steps into the main space (20cm each).
There is a ground floor toilet (door width: 72cm).
As part of purchasing your ticket we will ask you if you have any access requirements that we will do our best to accommodate for the workshop.
